Fourcee, which offers logistic solutions for liquid cargo, plans to use the fund in adding containers and tank terminals.

Fourcee Infrastructure Equipment Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai-based logistic provider, is raising Rs 50 crore from venture capital funds Mayfield India Fund and SIDBI Venture Capital Ltd.

Fourcee, which offers logistic solutions for liquid cargo, plans to utilise the fund in adding containers and tank terminals, apart from strengthening the infrastructure of the company, according to a Mayfield statement.

Following this investment, Vikram Godse, managing director at Mayfield, will join Fourcee’s board of directors. “The logistics industry in India is going through a structural change and Fourcee struck us as a company that is bringing about a transformational change in the way liquid cargo is being transported across the country,” said Godse.

Mayfield India focuses on companies with substantial operations in India in sectors including consumer, specialty retail, technology & technology enabled services, infrastructure ancillaries and agri related companies. It started investing in India in 2006, and has raised $110 million India dedicated fund in 2008. Some of its earlier investments include fashion retailer Satya Paul, Geodesic Techniques and Paymate.

The logistics sector has seen a strong investor interest with 15 deals worth $354 million in 2009, according VCCEdge. Container freight services is an area that is increasingly catching the interest of venture capital and private equity players.  Some of the prominent deals of the year include Blackstone’s Rs 300 crore investment in Gateway Rail Freight Ltd (GRFL), and India Value Fund’s (IVF) Rs 200-crore investment in Innovative B2B Logistic Solutions.
